Workshop on Proposed Allocation Plan to Implement the National Housing Trust Fund Program in Florida

Event Detail:The goal of the federal NHTF Program is to create an ongoing, dedicated source of capital for development of affordable housing for households with incomes at or below 30% of Area Median Income. It is new funding for Florida and does not supplant or replace any existing state or federal funding. Florida Housing proposes to use all of this program funding for rental housing. Properties which receive NHTF funding must remain affordable for a minimum of 30 years. U.S. HUD is expected to release the allocation amounts for each state sometime in April 2016. As the allocating agency for the funds in Florida, Florida Housing must prepare an allocation plan to submit to HUD for approval before the NHTF funds may be received. The April 28th workshop will provide attendees an opportunity to hear and provide comments on Florida Housing Finance Corporation’s proposed NHTF allocation plan outlining how the funding will be allocated. In addition, Florida Housing staff will answer questions about HUD requirements, eligible activities, and next steps in the process of formally adopting the NHTF Allocation Plan. After the April workshop, Florida Housing will keep the public comment period open for 30 days for interested parties to submit written comments, and all written comments will be posted on Florida Housing’s NHTF webpage (link below). Florida Housing then will make any revisions to the plan resulting from those comments and hold a final, formal public hearing at a date to be determined. After receiving final comments on the plan, Florida Housing will make any final revisions and submit the plan to HUD for approval.
